We are a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization committed to the prevention and treatment of type 1 and type 2 diabetes and to the funding of innovative, promising research aimed at finding a cure for diabetes and diabetes related complications.

Dr. Svetlana Mojsov receives award for GLP-1 Discovery

Dr. Svetlana Mojsov received the Distinguished Medical Science Award for her discovery of glucagon-like peptide (GLP-1). Diabetes Action is proud to have funded some of Dr. Mojsov’s initial research of GLP-1 in the early 1990’s. Her work directly led to the GLP-1 analog, semaglutide for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. Dr. Mojsov has received many accolades for her discovery including being named to the TIME100 list of Most Influential People of 2024.

We provide grants to help children with diabetes to attend summer camps where they can learn valuable skills while sharing experiences with others who understand their unique struggles of living with diabetes.

Diabetes Action provides support to the Cheyenne River Youth Project to help provide Lakota youth and families with opportunities to strengthen their community and reduce the incidence of type 2 diabetes.

There is no such thing as a “diabetic diet”. We are all unique and no single eating plan will work the same for everyone. Some people may be able to eat more carbohydrates and still achieve good blood sugar control while others may require more protein. Monitor your blood sugar to find out what foods work best for you.
